I used a 600 head gasket Joachim so it was ok-would have been about .5 higher compression though because of the higher capacity.

Ok so I checked the connections from the coolant sensor to gauge they all seem ok but I pulled them apart and check the tension of the terminals and cleaned.

Also checked the water pump, It felt ok and no movement apparent how ever there were some old coolant stains from above the pump and around the bottom of the pump but nothing fresh and the stains were pink but it has had green coolant in it and I've changed to Engine Ice which is a blue colour so no fresh stains.

Probably won't ride it again for a week or so. So will see then if there is any change.

Cheers, Murray

Hi Murray,
keep an eye on those water stains, as you say they are not new because of different colour to your water additive, could be your pump has been rebuilt or replaced before? the last time I changed a pump I was replacing a belt and saw one drip from the edge of the pulley, early enough to rebuild the pump, the hardest part was getting out a counter sunk screw holding the pump flange with a rounded out hexagon :S

Original Saturno head, RC600 valves and new seats, professionally gasflowed by a mate of mine you may have heard of-John Hackett, of JH Performance and Ducati Coventry. Original dellorto carb and Silentium exhaust-although to be fair most of the silencers internals had long since disappeared. Bike would rev straight through to the 8500 limiter still pulling hard-no idea what the power output was but it was a lot stronger than a standard Saturno.

Original Saturno head,

mounted on a 600ccm cylinder as far as i understand.
And now the million dollar question....
Did you make the 2 extra holes into the 600ccm headgasket or not?
If not, your Saturno head, which has a slightly different position of the water channels, will not be flown by water in the right way.
You can see this when driving in the rain.
The temperatur gauge is mounted in the head. Driving at a hot day will raise the temperatur.
Now imagine there is a thunder storm ahead. Usually the spray water from the front tire will cool down the engine very quick. But surprise... the tempearure will not drop very much.
Why? The gauge is in the cylinder head which is not flown very well. So the water there stays hot for a longer time.
This symptom is typical for the forgotten extra holes.
I will see if i can find the pics i have made.
Why i know about this?
Don't ask
